On Sunday, I received a beautiful rose from a spirited bunch of teenagers during the Gaza fundraising.
I found it thoughtful :)
On the way home, I stared at the beauty of the rose; such a beautiful creation of God. It never fails to brighten up a day or lit up a smile.
Then it hit me.
What about the people of Gaza?
In the midst of pain and terror are they able to enjoy the beauty of a rose?
I guess in Singapore, there are a lot of little things, beauty and simplicity that we take for granted. Forget about a rose. Just look at our trees! They are everywhere!
Yet, not many appreciate their presence.
When I was in Vietnam, the first thing I missed the most were Singapore’s trees. I missed the constant sight of green. I missed the leaves. I missed the morning smell.
Lesson learnt on Sunday: Slow down and count your blessings.
Funny, I learnt it from a rose.

Dear God,
I need you.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
The courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
I need your guidance, everyday.

As a child, I have always held the strangest aspirations. I wanted to be soo many things.
I wanted to be a doctor to save lives.
I wanted to be a traveler to meet people all over the world.
I wanted to save children from feeling pain and hunger.
I wanted to donate all of my stuffs away!
I wanted to adopt children.
And I always thought I was adopted.
I think my parents had a hard time with me as a young girl. They still do now.
Today, as a female soon entering adulthood; I am no different.
It is certainly less easy when I do not have parents who support my weirdest aspirations. But I know I will be able to achieve it on my own (with God’s permission). I may not be able to be a doctor who medically saves lives, but I have achieved a fraction of that dream as a first aider. I have travelled a little bit but it is not satisfying enough.
I wished I had more empowerment towards accomplishing these dreams. I want to make this world a better place. I need to. I know I have the energy to play a larger role in this life. I want to use the energy I am blessed with as a youth for a good cause.
Singapore is just too small for me right now. There is so much happening beyond! I want to face the pain of war thorn countries. I want to share my meals with an orphan. I want to give what I have learned here back to the people beyond Singapore. I can’t just keep gaining knowledge and not be able to pass it to someone else? I know I will grow to be a better person through these experiences. I want to share my blessings.
I want to share my blessings.

Strange is our situation here on Earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to divine a purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: that man is here for the sake of other men.

As a daughter.
As a sister.
As a friend.
As a lover.
As me.

Something to share from Sis Muna's blog.
The fammous Sufi woman, Rabi'ah al Adawiyyah said:
"My God, if I worshipped you out of fear of the fire, then burn me with the fire of hell; and if I worshipped you out of the desire for paradise, then deprive me of it; but if i worshipped you for your love, then don't deprive me, my God, of your eternal beauty".
She also said:
"I did not worship Him fearing His fire, and desiring His paradise, then I would be like a bad hired hand; but I worshipped Him out of love and yearning for Him".
:) Sweetness.
